Saifullah Khan was suspended on Sunday by Dean of Yale College Marvin Chun, three days after the new charges surfaced, the school newspaper reported.
According to the Yale Daily News, under the suspension, Khan has been barred from campus and all of his classes.
He was also suspended in 2015 after Khan was arrested for allegedly assaulting a Yale student. He was acquitted of the charges and the suspension was lifted in August 2017, the paper said.
In the Dean's letter to Khan informing him of the suspension, Chun wrote that the suspension “appears necessary for [Khan’s] physical and emotional safety and well-being and/or the safety and well-being of the university community.”
On Wednesday, Khan filed suit against the college in New Haven Superior Court. Court documents show that Chun ordered the suspension after allegations that Khan had acted violently toward an associate, Jon Andrews during an alcohol-fueled threesome in Washington, D.C., earlier this year, the YaleDailyNews.com said.
Khan is seeking a university-funded bodyguard under the court request and as for a court order directing school staff to quit harassing him, the paper reported.
The civil complaint also stated: “there is no credible evidence that permitting Mr. Khan to attend classes poses a threat of harm to himself or anyone affiliated with Yale.”
Students have expressed concerns regarding Khan and praised the school for the suspension, the paper said.
“I’m glad that the administration is taking precaution and taking care of students’ safety first,” Yale College Council’s student life director Grace Kang said in a statement to the News.
